Microsoft and Oracle Join Forces to Make Oracle Database Service Available for Azure

Microsoft and Oracle announced on July 20th, 2022 that Oracle Database Service will be available for Microsoft Azure. With this new offering, Microsoft Azure users will have a simpler way to provision, access, and monitor enterprise-grade Oracle Database services in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Azure users will be able to migrate or build new applications on Azure and then connect to the high-performance, high-availability, managed Oracle Database services such as Autonomous Database running on OCI.

The new service will also significantly help companies avoid the common ingress and egress involved in moving data between various workloads.

The Same Experience with an added Oracle Managed Service - at No Cost

This new service aims to make it more intuitive for Azure users to access the Exadata Database Service and Autonomous Database. It is meant to address the serious need of Azure and Oracle customers to apply the advantages of the latest in Oracle Database technology to their Azure workloads.

Users should be able to connect their Azure subscriptions to their OCI tenancy in just a few clicks. The service will automatically configure what’s required to link the two cloud environments and federate Azure Active Directory identities. This will make it easy for Azure customers to use the service. Furthermore, it will provide a familiar dashboard of Oracle Database Services on OCI using Azure terminology and monitoring with Azure Application Insights.

According to Oracle, customers will not be charged for using the new service or the underlying network interconnection, data egress, or data ingress between Azure and OCI. However, users will pay for other Azure or Oracle services they utilize, like Azure Synapse and Oracle Autonomous Database.

How to Activate the Oracle Database Service

To set up your Oracle Database Service for Azure, visit the Oracle multicloud sign-up page. Note that the service is primarily limited to 11 locations where Oracle and Microsoft’s data centers are located near one another.
